ALNMOUTH (Northumberland)
 
 In the ‘sixties there was an unauthorized meeting at Alnmouth (Northumberland).  This was held in August and was advertised as “Over the Alnmouth Course on turf”.  The card for 1867 gives Mr. R. Taylor as clerk of the course and the following was the programme:
                The Alnmouth Hunt Cup of £1 each with £15 added; second horse to save his stake.  Weights, 11 st 7 lbs.  Winners of £25 to carry 7 lbs. Extra, and £50 to carry 14 lbs. Extra.  Distance, about 3 miles over hurdles: - 1, J. Dixon’s bay mare Cowslip, aged, scarlet; 2, J. Davison's bay gelding Little Jack, aged, blue jacket and crimson cap.
            The Farmers Stakes of 10s. each, with £7 added.  Weights and conditions same as the Alnwick Hunt Cup.  Distance, about two mils over hurdles.  The winner of the Alnwick Hunt Cup to carry 14 lbs. extra: -    1, J. Hindhaugh’s Sandhopper, blue body and cap, chocolate sash; 2, J. Davison's bay gelding Euroclydon, aged, blue jacket and crimson cap, white sash; 3, R. Moralee’s Howling Swell, 6 yrs., buff and blue, black cap; 4, J. T. Clark’s Cold Punch, Blue and white cap.

Old 9 st.,   6 yrs. and aged 9 st. 7 lbs.   Winners of £25 to carry 7 lbs. extra.   Heats, about a mile: - 1, Mr. Lowrey’s chestnut gelding. Edgar, aged, red, white and blue; 2, Geo. Tait’s bay colt. Marillo, 4 yrs., scarlet and white belt; 3, Mr. Wentworth’s black filly. Polecat, 3 yrs., black; 4, Mr. Dixon’s bay mare. Cowslip, aged, scarlet; 5, J. Davison’s bay gelding. Euroclydon, aged, blue jacket, crimson cap, white sash; 6, W. Brown’s chestnut mare., 4 yrs., blue body, white sleeves and red cap; 7, J. Dale’s Sailor Boy, 6 yrs., blue body, red sash and cap.
            Ladies’ Purse of 5s. each with £5 added.  Weights and conditions the same as Alnmouth Hunt Cup.  Winners of any of the above races to carry 14 lbs. extra: - 1, Mr. Lowrey’s chestnut gelding.          Consolation Stakes of 5s. each, with £2 added, for beaten horses.  Catch weights.  Distance, once round the course.
